Today we headed North to outside of Haifa and Netanya to interview two young lovelies (Aliza, Ruti) of Polish heritage (with 2nd Gen and grandchildren present!) who were rescued by American soldiers in the Train Near Magdeburg story. My heart skipped a beat or two. They were so happy to finally meet me, it was hard to hold back the tears. Kleenex was deployed; they were so excited by our visit, and the professionalism of our great crew.

My mother and granparents, Flora Mihael (Carasso), Rene Carasso and Aline Carasso were in the Madgenburg train. They were Spanish nationals from Thessaloniki, Greece. The always talked about their experience in the train and thereafter in the German towns and as refugess in Belgium and France, before returning to Greece. Mother passed away 8 years ago, grandparents 1974 and 1982 respectively. They would have been so very proud about this project!. My mother received reparations from the German government, and have to physical go to the German consulate in Thessaloniki every month to proof she was still alive to collect payment. It was the happiest time of the month for her to show to the Germans that she was alive. To the last month before she passed she walked in the German consulate alive.
Matt,
You are an amazing teacher but I think you are by far a more amazing Historian! I am so proud to say I know you, keep up the good work!
